The "Lion" product and brand have received many accolades over the years, including being adjudged both a "Superbrand" and a "Powerbrand" in 2006.
The beverage sector of the Group claim to a heritage of over 100 years in the brewing industry. Ceylon Brewery's plant in Nuwara Eliya was in operation for over a century prior to its closure in 2001 to make way for the state-of-the-art brewery in Biyagama owned by its subsidiary Lion Brewery.

Strengthening the solid foundation built by its parent, Lion Brewery has continued the legacy and has maintained the leadership position by far in the Sri Lankan beer industry. Its current 750,000 hectoliter/annum brewery was initially commissioned in 1998 with a capacity of 300,000. Its fully automated, sophisticated plant which uses cutting-edge German technology sourced from Krones & Steinecker, brews Sri Lanka's No. 1 beer brands under the "Lion" umbrella and the internationally renowned global brand "Carlsberg", which it produces under license from Carlsberg International Denmark. It recently acquired distribution rights for the legendary Mexican beer brand "Corona" which is now distributed along with its own beer brands. Ceylon Brewery now remains a holding Company.

Both companies in the brewery sector, namely Ceylon Brewery PLC and Lion Brewery (Ceylon) PLC, are listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange.

Ceylon Brewery PLC operates as an investment holding company owning the "Lion" brand and a 50.99% stake of Lion Brewery (Ceylon) PLC.

Lion Brewery (Ceylon) PLC brews Sri Lanka's leading beers, Lion and Carlsberg, under license from Carlsberg International of Denmark since 1993.

The "Lion" product and brand have received many accolades over the years, including being adjudged both a "Superbrand" and a "Powerbrand" in 2006. In the international arena, Lion Lager, Lion Strong and Lion Imperial have been awarded Gold medals at the prestigious Monde Selection while Lion Stout had the distinction of being awarded a Grand Gold medal for the fifth time at the Monde Selection event in 2011. Lion Strong beer which is exported to some countries as Lion Imperial has also been awarded a Gold medal at the World Beer Championships.

With the idea of getting closer to the end consumer and moving further downstream to facilitate this process, CBL Retailers (Pvt) Ltd. was set up as a fully owned subsidiary of Ceylon Brewery PLC. CBL Retailers runs a chain of wine shops under its name which provide the consumer a different buying experience from that offered by traditional outlets. It also operates a unique chain of fledgling pubs called "Machan", aimed at providing the on-premise consumer a value-for-money drinking experience.

Backed by a committed and talented workforce, Lion Brewery′s operations are fully computerised, using cutting-edge technology solutions such as ERPs, Sales Force Automation systems, Computerised Maintenance Management Systems and Data Warehousing Solutions on a state-of-the-art network infrastructure.
